Touch: drag left or right on the picture or the steering pad to steer (drag up or down to move in the menu); GAS, BRAKE and BOOST are under the other thumb. GAS also starts from the menu.
Menu: ↑↓ pick a line, ←→ change it, Enter (or X / Z) starts. Four tracks: Neo City, Blue Deep (the ocean), Gold Wind (a crosswind over the wheat) and Old Port (one very tight hairpin); five strengths of rival; race, practice or two-player link.
Keys: ←→ steer · X / Space = accelerate · Z or ↓ = brake, and with ←→ a skid turn · ↑ = boost (one per lap) · Shift = engine sound on/off · after a race, Enter = go again and Shift = menu · Enter + Shift together = menu · F = fullscreen · gamepads supported (bottom/left face button or right shoulder = accelerate, right/top face button or left shoulder = brake)
Each track is a fixed lap of straights and short corners, the same every time, so you can learn it: a corner shows as a bend on the horizon a couple of seconds before you reach it, and is over in half a second. Corners throw you wide with the square of your speed: gentle ones you can steer through flat out, sharp ones want a dab of brake on the way in (the brake takes the edge off but never stops you, and cuts a boost short). Bouncing off the rail never slows you, but it costs health, and at zero the car is gone: brake for the worst corners, and cross the two pulsing patches on the left after the start line to recharge (the slower you cross them, the more they give). Only dirt (rough dark patches) slows you. Blocks are barriers, fast-flickering white patches are boost pads, the black strip is a jump. A mistake lets a rival pounce. Two-player link needs two consoles and a cable, so not this page.
